The canopy of our professors and mentors shelters us but that doesn’t stop the harshness of life’s weather from thundering down upon us. We are resilient.Įach person’s journey is different, but we are all grounded by the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center experience. We may grow slowly, but we are deep-rooted. Although we change, we do not waver because of it. We withstand emotional floods, learning to shield ourselves and protecting others, and grow stronger in the midst of the thistle. We are pushed to the edge of breaking, yet we only bend. The cypress tree is much like the professional student. It is so rare, that it isn’t harvested, but is so essential to its environment that it is allowed to stay grounded. While it may be slow-growing, it is distinct and rare. It changes in color and appearance, but it doesn’t become weaker in the process. Root systems that are specialized to withstand toppling in storms. Used to protect others.Ī giant among the trees.
